Gmail offers more than just email – you can add sidebar gmail gadgets to display screen to add more functionality or just for plain fun.
First you should enable “Add any gadget by URL” efficiency on Gmail Labs. To do so you need to go to Settings > Labs and switch to Enable button next to “Add any gadget by URL” gadget. After that you will be able to add devices by submitting the URL in the Configurations > Gadgets page.
All of the Gadgets listed must be installed by URL. Basically copy the URLs below and paste into your Gmail Gadgets settings container and press “Add.”

There are several Twitter gadgets available which you can use but I found that this one works best for me. You can post instant tweets straight form the Gmail and browse your friend tweets. I would say that this device turns Gmail into quite decent Twitter client.

gbook-gmail-gadget gBook presents all the basic functions to never loose contact with your Facebook friends. You can revise your status, discover email and notifications direct form your mailbox. Feel free to search for other Facebook gadgets as I came across this my favorite but there are few more.
